Sometimes entrepreneurs need to come back to earth with a bump especially when their business is going like a train.
Here’s a true story from the incredibly successful entrepreneur, Robert Herjavec, that illustrates this perfectly.
In a social media post, he confessed that a time came when he suddenly realised he’d lost his ‘compass’ and sense of core purpose.
He was focused on acquiring a bigger jet than his entrepreneur friend, Mark Cuban. When he said to Cuban “I’m going to get myself a bigger jet than yours,” Cuban replied, “Which one?”
That brought home to Herjavec that he’d lost sight of his reason for being in business and was just chasing money and the trappings of wealth.
There’s always going to be someone who’s doing better or making more money than you.
How clear is the purpose that pushed or pulled you to start your business? How do you keep that motivation pure?
